Devices for network connectivity

NIC (Network Interface Card)

A NIC short for Network Interface Card is a way of connecting a computer to a home network or just the internet. It does this by using an Ethernet cable form the computer to the router. A NIC is an extra piece of hardware for the computer so it needs to be installed to the motherboard. Most computers nowadays have this already installed so there is no need to get one installed anymore.

3G

3G (Third Generation) is a type of telephone service that allows you to access the internet. Most 3G connections form at least 200k bit/s. The first commercial launch of 3G was also by NTT DoCoMo in Japan on 1 October. To access a 3G network connection you must have a particular type of phone but the fast speeds are a benefit to the pricy handset prices.

Bluetooth

Bluetooth is a type of connection that transfers data at short range distance. Bluetooth, often represented by a logo with a blue background and a white B inside. It is mainly used to transfer data
between mobile devices but now Bluetooth is used in hands-free kits in cars. It is a inexpensive way of data transfer as most mobile hand-sets have this.

Wireless

Wireless is a type of connection that uses no wires to transfer data between devices, normally a router to a computer. The most common form of wireless is mobile phones which you can  communicate with people hundreds of miles away.
