Security Risks

Logons to Network
With 50 users in a company and no personal profile it could cause a lot of frustration. This means that users would have one main account for all employees. Furthermore it would benefit having personal logins as they can personalise their accounts; for example the desktop background.

Internet Restrictions
With no internet restrictions on the company network means that employees can access any website they want. This is a problem as some websites can infect the businesses network with a virus. Another problem with not having any restrictions on the internet means that they can be distracted form their work and can use social networking sites.

Installation and Removal of Software
If employees have the right to install and remove software this can be a flaw for the business, as the employees might install software which could affect the networks use. Also they can remove software which can be harmful as the business could lose clients personal information.

Backing Up and keeping information secure

Backing up information on companies server is vital as if a fire starts the information would be lost. This is why most businesses will back up their information to data tapes that are taken off site at the end of each day and kept in a secure fireproof safe.

Customer Information
Some businesses will use a database to help organise customer’s personal information. Using a database is an easier way to do this because in database software you can create a form which will help inexperienced users understand the information.

Email Security
Having a personal email address for the company is important as if a customer wants to contact a certain employee in the business they can use their personal email. Unlike having a public email which can be confusing.

IP Address Log
Having a IP address log is important as you can see what computers are accessing certain sites.

Firewalls
A firewall is like a barrier between the internet and your computer. A firewall is not a sure way to protect your computer. Businesses need this as they will often keep customers personal information stored on the network If there is no firewall on the network the information on it may be at risk.

Physical Security
One of the most important types of security is the physical side. Doors and windows must be locked at all time with appropriate equipment. There are many devices to protect your business, keypad locks and fingerprint scanners are the most popular

Downloads
Downloads are another popular way for hackers to gain access to information.
Normally on company networks the I.T manager will disable downloads this is to prevent the network becoming infected with a virus.
